On my first visit to Florida, I stopped by Rib City—a local BBQ spot that almost qualifies as a chain by our standards, just two locations shy. Our waitress gave a glowing review of the raspberry cheesecake, saying, “I eat one almost every shift—it’s delicious!” Naturally, I had a bit of hope. Unfortunately, that faded quickly.
This was another case of a generic, brought-in cheesecake—just tossed on a plate with a couple of whipped cream dollops and sent out. The flavor wasn’t bad, just forgettable. The filling was noticeably denser, likely from being recently frozen, and the crust wasn’t dry but plain, offering little support to elevate the overall bite.
It’s not terrible, but it’s not memorable either. I’ve had truly great cheesecakes, and once you know what that level tastes like, these kinds of desserts just don’t hold up. Maybe with some flair or effort, it could’ve climbed to a 5 or 6. But as it stands, it’s simply average at best.
Enjoy the BBQ—just skip the cheesecake.
