Harpoon Hanna’s

For our final night at the beach, we found ourselves at Harpoon Hanna’s in Fenwick Island—a packed house buzzing with live music, laughter, and summer energy. The setting was perfect: breezy outdoor seating, friendly service, and a great dinner that hit all the right notes. Naturally, when the check came and our waiter asked about dessert, I couldn’t resist seeing what their cheesecake had to offer.

The flavor? All American Cherry Cheesecake. The expectation? A patriotic punch of flavor and flair to close out the trip. The reality? A bit of a letdown.

Presentation was uninspired. A small spray of canned whipped cream and a barebones slice of cheesecake didn’t match the celebratory energy of the evening. It lacked personality—no vibrant cherry topping, no drizzle, no effort to dress it up. For something labeled “All American,” it came off more like an afterthought.

Taste-wise, it was more of the same. The filling was light and airy—not offensive, just plain. It had that unmistakable store-bought feel, and while that’s not always a dealbreaker, it lacked heart. The crust? Functional, but forgettable. And the cherries? Minimal, artificial, and barely there. There was no pop, no sweetness to balance the creaminess—just a red swirl and the ghost of what could’ve been.

This dessert had the bones of something better. Load it with real cherry filling, finish it with a sweet glaze or compote, and maybe add a buttery graham crust with some depth—and suddenly we’re talking. But as it stands, this slice didn’t live up to the rest of the Harpoon Hanna’s experience.

A fun spot, great food, but next time I’ll pass on dessert.
