When a trusted hotel recommendation sends you across the street for a meal, expectations are naturally high. Von Blaze certainly delivered on the savory side. From massive, flavor-packed garlic Parmesan fries to a special crab cake sandwich that lived up to the hype, the evening started strong. And then came the weekly cheesecake.
That week’s feature? Nutter Butter.
Presented with artistic flair, the slice arrived drizzled with a thick homemade peanut butter sauce and finished with a light dusting of powdered sugar. Two mini Nutter Butter cookies perched on top promised a nostalgic kick. Visually, it was a dessert that didn’t just walk to your table—it strutted.
But flavor-wise, it was a bit of a mixed bag.
The filling leaned heavy on peanut butter influence and had a density that veered just past indulgent and into slightly overwhelming. This is one of those rare occasions where a creamier, more balanced base could’ve brought the entire dessert together.
Unfortunately, the crust was the biggest letdown. While the edge of a well-baked cheesecake can offer that satisfying snap, this one bordered on overdone. The overly firm crust disrupted the otherwise soft bite and left a slight burnt aftertaste that lingered longer than it should have.
There’s no doubt that effort and creativity went into this dessert. The presentation was thoughtful, and the idea of a Nutter Butter cheesecake holds promise. But execution is everything, and this one fell just short of the mark.
Still, for a lively spot with a rotating dessert menu, exceptional fries, and standout service, Von Blaze is worth the visit. Just keep in mind: cheesecake flavors change weekly—so your experience may be a whole different story next time.
