There are few things more frustrating than when nearly everything about a dining experience is firing on all cylinders—except for the dessert. During my visit, the setting was lively and inviting. The service was top-notch, appetizers and drinks hit the mark, and the price point felt fair. Add in an evening of music bingo with a playlist full of feel-good tunes, and the night was shaping up to be a memorable one.

That is, until the cheesecake arrived.

Visually, the presentation didn’t disappoint. The New York-style slice was served on a square white plate, lightly dusted with powdered sugar and accompanied by two neat dollops of whipped cream. The filling itself held strong—creamy, smooth, and dense in all the right ways. It delivered that classic richness you expect from a solid New York cheesecake.

But then there was the crust.

At first glance, it seemed promising—firm and structured—but the flavor told a different story. While the texture wasn’t bone-dry, it had a slightly hard bite and an unmistakable burnt aftertaste that lingered long after each forkful. It was the kind of off-note that overshadowed the entire dessert. No matter how pleasant the filling was, the crust made it hard to go back in for another bite without reaching for a drink to cleanse the palate.

This cheesecake wasn’t a total loss—the filling was respectable, and the plating was clean and thoughtful—but a poor crust can derail even the best of efforts. At $10, this could have been a satisfying ending to an otherwise great evening. Instead, it became a reminder that even one small detail—like the crust—can make or break a cheesecake.

A promising dessert with a tough finish. Let’s hope they tweak the recipe and let that creamy filling shine the way it deserves.
