While on vacation celebrating my sister’s birthday, we stopped into Woody’s Dewey Beach—a laid-back coastal bar and grill known for its crab cakes and good vibes. The festive energy of the place was infectious, and after a satisfying meal, I was intrigued to spot a crème brûlée cheesecake listed on their specials menu.
Naturally, I had to give it a try.
The presentation was simple—a no-frills white square plate with the cheesecake slice standing alone. But what it lacked in visual flair, it made up for in intrigue. A golden brûléed glaze shimmered on top, adding a subtle crispness and a touch of caramelized sweetness that hinted at the dessert’s namesake.
Texture-wise, the cheesecake was slightly layered, with a denser, custard-like base and a smoother filling up top. The flavor leaned toward classic vanilla bean, mellow and creamy, with the brûlée glaze adding a welcome contrast. The crust held up well and balanced the richness of the filling, making each bite feel complete.
Was it groundbreaking? No—but it was certainly enjoyable, and a fun twist on a traditional favorite. For $9, it’s a worthwhile way to wrap up an evening in Dewey Beach—especially when you’re celebrating with good company.
