While visiting Hollywood Casino in Charles Town, we decided to stop by 9 Dragons for a bite after some time at the tables. Known for its General Tso’s Chicken and sushi offerings, it wasn’t the place I expected to find cheesecake—but when I spotted it on the dessert menu, I knew I had to try it.
The slice that arrived was nothing short of generous. A classic New York-style cheesecake was served with an enthusiastic amount of whipped cream, a drizzle of raspberry sauce cascading over the top, and fresh raspberries nestled around the base. Plating was clean and simple, but the bright red raspberry sauce popped beautifully against the creamy filling.
The cheesecake itself had a dense, traditional texture, but it leaned a bit on the mild side in terms of flavor. The richness you typically hope for in a New York slice just didn’t quite come through. The raspberry drizzle added some needed tartness and contrast, but it couldn’t fully carry the flavor on its own. The whipped cream—though plentiful—felt more decorative than purposeful.
All in all, it’s the kind of cheesecake you’d enjoy in the moment, especially after a savory meal, but it won’t be one you find yourself thinking about days later. For around $9, it delivers a decent portion and a satisfying finish—but in a town with high culinary standards, it’s not likely to take the crown.
