When I asked about their cheesecake, the waitress recommended, “If you’re feeling adventurous, try the cheesecake.” Let me tell you, she was right.
I’ve reviewed cheesecakes for years, but I’ve never come across one quite like this. At first, I wasn’t sure if it was even a dessert. When I looked back at the menu, I realized it was labeled as a Goat Cheese “Cheesecake,” and the quotation marks suddenly made sense.
Let’s disregard the quotes and rate it as a cheesecake anyway. The taste was truly unique. Everything about it was light, from the whipped texture of the cheesecake filling to the cloud-like lemon poppy seed cake. Combining them gave it a little more density to simulate a less thick cheesecake. For the “crust,” we were given a few slices of very thin walnut crisps. To add a bit of sweetness, they added fennel jam.
The best way to enjoy this cheesecake was to have a small amount of everything in one bite. Doing so left me questioning what I was eating, but my taste buds were craving more.
The plating was simple yet elegant, with a bit of what I believe to be sorrel garnish on a large circular black glass plate. No other elements were needed for the presentation, as the uniqueness of the dessert more than spoke for itself.
At $12, the price was on the higher end when it comes to cheesecake. However, I truly believe that the experience of this cheesecake makes it money well spent.
Overall, I didn’t expect to receive what I got. I was anticipating a traditional style cheesecake with goat cheese as the filling, but this was something else entirely. I will without a doubt be talking about this cheesecake and recommending it to all who visit.
